Second piece in the same series as Vulva Sanctus Quinque.
No grand statements nor intentions, just some art.
After various and numerous incursions into spaces of shape and colour, I ended up wanting to draw this as a second piece to accompany VSQ.
It was six years ago I had the courage and interest to take up drawing again, tentatively reworking and reinterpreting some much older pieces from my student days. Problem solving in purely abstract compositions was very fun for some time. Went on to draw simplified insects and highly decorative birds. Faces of people entering and exiting my life were, what felt a natural progression and seemed to take on a therapeutic, though a self-indulgent valence. It appears that I’ve moved onto other details of the human anatomy, hopefully treating them with the same decorative and detailed approach as all the others.
I give you Iggy Pop, because he’s always represented the epitome of what an individual with artistic sensibilities should also be, for me. Beyond the angrily forced and intense eyes and bloody chest as a younger performer, contortionist stances in his stage jumping and twitching days, the eerie world of deep droning sound he conjures in Mass Production, the often quiet and distant manifestations of his background sound but desperate or raw vocal performance, the voluntary solitude and isolation whilst living and experiencing the jazzy luxury on Avenue B and going all Blah-Blah-Blah, I appreciate and adore you for every night I went clubbing and had you in my head. No worries, I'll get the cigarettes this time.
