After various and numerous incursions into spaces of shape and colour, I ended up wanting to draw the piece you see here.
It was six years ago I had the courage and interest to take up drawing again, tentatively reworking and reinterpreting some much older pieces from my student days. Problem solving in purely abstract compositions was very fun for some time. Went on to draw simplified insects and highly decorative birds. Faces of people entering my life were, what felt a natural progression and seemed to take on a therapeutic, though a self-indulgent valence. It appears that I’ve moved onto other details of the human anatomy, hopefully treating them with the same decorative and detailed approach as all the others.
I give you Kate Bush, because she’s always represented the epitome of what an individual with artistic sensibilities should be, for me. Beyond the wide-eyed look in some of her videos, the sensual worlds she conjures dancing in the woods, the love and anger she can invoke whilst showered in glitter, the voluntary solitude and isolation whilst dreaming of sheep, a more realistic image of intimacy and relationships, the never-ending appreciation for female kind in all its incarnations and representations and all of these whilst being the most magikal mad sorceress. With eternal thanks and fascination, I adore you in wishful kinship.
